Each year, beginning in the fall, I start looking for gift ideas for my adult children. This year, I wish to share some ideas for gifts for adult children that I, my staff, our clients, and referral partners have come up with. I hope you find these ideas useful.
The first group of gift ideas are gifts geared towards education on finances and teaching our children to become debt free. Some of the gifts to consider include books on finances. Here are a couple of short reads that are inexpensive: (i) The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason, (ii) The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Another gift in this area would be gifting your children with a course on financial freedom. There are many courses available, some taught in person and others remotely. Many of these courses walk participants through becoming debt free, budgeting, saving, and investing.
Looking to make memories? Consider a family vacation as a gift. Perhaps a long weekend to the beach, mountains or some other location. If you have more time and can afford more, consider taking everyone on a longer vacation. Instead of spending your time searching for gifts that may or may not be used, make memories with your family.
If your children are young adults or have started a family, consider gifting them an Estate Plan. Many young families have tight budgets and put the task of making a Last Will and Testament on the back burner until they can afford it. Consider making a contribution towards getting their Wills prepared as a way of helping them put plans in place for their family.
If you have grandchildren, consider making a contribution to a 529 Plan for their education. This gift can benefit your children and grandchildren and may be tax deductible as well.
