I/We need to do that!” Is the most common thing I hear when talking to people about estate planning. Unfortunately, life doesn’t make it easy for us, with jobs, kids, chores, and all of the unexpected curves. Add to that the fact that the topic of death is never an easy one. But getting your estate plan done doesn’t have to be the big, scary task that many people think it is. In fact, getting your estate plan complete can take as little as three hours of your time.

First, CALL AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. This is the easiest step and the one people never get to. Like a doctor’s appointment or dentist, once you actually make the appointment and put it on the calendar, you are half-way there.

Second, fill out the questionnaire. If you don’t know some of the answers, that’s ok! We expect you to have questions and to walk through the plan with you. The questionnaire lets us know what your priorities are, who and what we need to plan for (kids, charities, blended families, guardianship, etc.), and gives us an idea of your assets to assure proper planning. We don’t need your bank accounts to the last dollar, we look at your assets to provide protection during lifetime, and ease of transfer after death.

Third, take an hour and sit down with us. You can ask any and all questions you have, voice your concerns, and let us walk you through the plan we think is the best fit for your family. Our fees are fixed-rate, so you don’t have to worry about a surprise bill or hidden hourly charge for that follow-up phone call to ask another question.

Fourth, go home, relax and forget about us for a week or two. Your job is pretty much complete. Now it’s up to us to write the documents that turn your desires into a concrete plan. After we draft, review the documents at your leisure and come back in to sign! Signing takes about an hour (depending on questions), and then you are DONE!

Now you can go home knowing you have a full estate plan in place that protects you during life and provides for your family in the event of your death. While it may not be fun to think about, the relief from having this security is worth the two or three hours of work.

We know life gets busy, so let us do the work of making your future and your family secure. Contact Grissom Law, LLC today at 678-781-9230 to schedule an appointment to discuss your needs.
