As 2016 comes to a close, it’s time for an estate plan year-end review. The end of the year is the best time to review your financial needs and assets. Do you have your estate plan in place? If so, is your plan current or does it need updating?

As we grow older, life happens and things change. Now is a great time to review your current estate plan. The estate plan year-end review should include a review of your entire estate plan. This review includes your Will, your Trust (if any), your Advanced Directive for Health Care and your Power of Attorney. Do you have the right people named as executor, trustee, agents and back up agents, and guardians of your children? Does your estate plan distribute your assets to your heirs as you wish? A review will provide an opportunity to ensure that your heirs are provided for in the best possible way.

Keep in mind that if you moved to a new state since executing your estate plan, the state laws may differ. If this is the case, it would be in your best interests to review your estate plan and confirm that you understand the current state laws and how they affect your estate.
